About Orígenes

Orígenes Eco Refugio is located in the "Playa Majagual", a construction of 800mts in Palafítica style, which protects the structure from the flooding of the river, the mangrove, and the high tide in the style of times before the arrival of the conquerors. Black communities take this type of construction as a particular way of knowing and representing the immense biodiversity contained in these ecological systems and the complex relationships established between the natural and cultural worlds.

Our facilities have an eco-sustainable occupancy capacity of 30 people simultaneously, in order to achieve a balance with the local fauna and flora. Come and see it for yourself!

The house is designed to make the most of the topographical conditions of the land and the elements provided by the environment; like the same wood that comes from trees planted in the mountains of the region (Guayabillo, Ají, Cedro, and Chingongo) and are only cut during the waning moon; they were essential for the structure of the hotel, which has been built by residents of Cupica.

The woven iraca, which makes up the framework of the roof, is woven by hand by the Embera Catíos community. The facilities have a pure water aqueduct, solar energy, and a waste treatment plant in bio-digesters to fully recycle organic waste, protecting the soil and water sources as well as producing compost.

Our group at the Observatory is made up of villagers who know the culture and the region, accompanied by a group of people who are passionate about caring for the environment, art, and working with the community.
